  Housing
  The Master of Technology program in HOUSING, started in 1989, takes a comprehensive view at this sector. It encompasses policy and program analysis through a detailed understanding of the private and popular initiatives involving built environment and the respective development viewing the public sector’s role as a facilitator.
   
 
PLANNING LABORATORIES IN HOUSING
Housing Strategies: Formulation of housing strategies at local (settlement) or state (regional) level; institutional structure for housing; evaluative study of past programs.
Housing Project Design and Management: Design of residential areas; open spaces; clustering; road network utility systems; costs; financing and returns; legal aspects; tenure; organization; etc.
 
CORE COURSES IN HOUSING
Housing Market and Finance: Basic concepts in understanding housing markets; market prices and valuation; market processes and socio-economic analysis of housing demand; supply and mobility; policies to influence market operations; informal land markets; development finance; Indian financial system; critical review of existing housing finance institutions and their schemes; housing finance management; financing low income groups
Housing Layout and Design: Concepts and approaches to residential layout and design; various house types and their implications in design layout; appraisal of layout and design efficiencies of large-scale residential areas.
Housing Technology: Housing technology with respect to local economy, energy and environment, government policy and institution support; influence of climate, geographical location, culture on housing technology; disaster-resistant housing technology.
Land and Real Estate Planning and Management: Land policies for shelter at state and national level. Basics of land market analysis for shelter. Various acts and regulations related to urban land and shelter like land ceiling; land taxation.
Planning Law and Legislation: Process of formulation and enactment of law and legislation; legislation related to town planning; municipality bye-laws and regulations on land; slums; co-operatives; transfer of property and rent control.
